Shae Myles likes kissing, noodles, birthdays, and asking uncomfortable questions. Recently, she’s been fascinated by the way we tend to remember our childhood. We often forget about the scary bits: that time we got winded at the soft play area, couldn’t tell the time, or cried when we couldn’t solve a math problem. She likes to gather stories from people around her to fuel her concepts, and to strengthen her own memory, so as not to forget the raw moments that we have learned and grown from.
Shae is currently based in Glasgow, Scotland, and is making work that is playful and colourful, drawing inspiration from early 00s kids TV shows, magazines and toys. The context of this research examines different perspectives of the past, in regards to ideas of play, consumer culture and the everyday.
