Collection: Natalie Wesselius

Painting with large scale, alarming tones, and violent brushstrokes, I express my angst, ‘dis-ease’, in an impulsive state. By conjuring fleeting moments and nostalgia, I reflect on the social structures around us and how they define us; a critique and at times a celebration. Obsessed with our relationships to objects in a commodified and dissociated world, I create anxiety-induced domestic environments that signify both the presence and absence of the spirit. Bridging a gap between the imaginative and ‘real’, I question my reality and stream an obsessive subconscious. I create these dream-like spaces with the aim of encouraging discussion of the surrounding psychological elements of hyper-capitalism that affect us, how we cope, and the ability to not look away when we should be looking.
