Elly Heise


Elly Heise is a Norwegian-Canadian artist. Her current research examines how human perception and self-awareness is shaped, with a focus on the influence of photography, memory, and natural environments. While photography comprises the core of her artistic practice, Heise often melds this medium with installation, textiles, and drawing. 

Heise attended the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver where she got her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2015, majoring in Photography. In the Spring of 2020, she obtained her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Victoria. She is currently working on a new series which she began while recently attending residencies in Switzerland and Portugal. Currently based in Canada, Heise is now focusing on actively creating and exhibiting. 

Future solo exhibitions include “Who am I to you?” in September 2021 with Xchanges Art Gallery in Victoria, B.C. which will run with Victoria Culture Days. Past solo exhibitions include “Looking Back“(a virtual interactive exhibition with I.C Contemporary), "Paradise Island" with the Audain Gallery in April 2020, and the 2019 exhibition "Kin" for Exposure Photo Fest.

Recent public appearances include artist talk for "Of Men and Woods" group exhibition with Verzasca Foto Festival in September 2020, open atelier and artist talk for Foundation Obras in October 2020, in Evoramonte, Portugal, and Juried Winner Showcase Artist Talk in February 2018 with Exposure Photo Festival in Alberta. Online publications include PH Museum, UNTIL magazine, PhotoLife, Daily Mail, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Huffington Post, and PetaPixel.
