Ella MacQueen-Denz

Since a very young age, Ella has spent most of her time drawing and making pictures any way she can. She explores shapes and colour in diverse mediums, including: knitting, sculpture, print-making, mural-art, painting, and drawing; she enjoys seeing how each practice informs the other. Ella's recent foray into puppetry has been a fascinating exploration of composition by incorporating physical movement with two-dimensional pictures. The puppets have a theatrical quality to them, and are inspired by the set-making techniques of early film-makers Georges Méliès and Karel Zeman. She is influenced by artists William Kurelek, Leonora Carrington, Otto Dix, and Jean-Antoine Watteau, to name a few.

Ella grew up on Salt Spring Island, and studies English at the University of Victoria.
